The cultural and educational cooperation between Germany and Bangladesh dates back even before their diplomatic relationship. After Germany’s official recognition of Bangladesh in 1972,the cooperation has grown more steadily.
The cultural and educational cooperation is mainly channelled through the Goethe-Institut Bangladesh that facilitates exchange of literature, music, film, arts and ideas. The Goethe Institut also promotes study of German language and international cultural exchange programmes. In 2010, the German media house DW Deutsche Welle officially launched its programs in Bengali. It has become one of the most popular foreign language programs of DW today. The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and many other organizations offer scholarships to Bangladeshi students and young researchers, according to recent release of the embassy.
The DAAD Bangladesh country office also offers interactive sessions and visits universities in Bangladesh to promote academic exchange between the two countries. The cultural and educational cooperation has significantly expanded with more students choosing Germany as their key destination for higher-studies.
